The Garden City Bird Sanctuary (Garden City)
No experience necessary, all ages welcome,
between 2 and 200 volunteers. Simple to complex projects.
The Garden City Bird Sanctuary received a grant from the NYS Department
of Environmental Conservation for a Community Tree Planting Program.
Work has started, and planting with volunteers is scheduled for March

The Garden City High School and Mineola High School environmental
clubs are also participating in a Nassau County "Medallion Program" to
cement signs on curb inlets leading to stormwater basins to advise not to
dump. If you or your organization would like to know who to contact to get

Muttontown Horsemen's Association Inc. (Syosset)
Trail clearing - about 4 days per year. We need young strong bodies to clip
bushes and move branches. Power tool training is a plus.

Old Westbury Gardens (Old Westbury)
Volunteer docents to give tours of house and gardens, plant and gift shop
volunteers, gardeners to assist horticulturists, receptionists. Must be at
least 18 to be a docent or receptionist, and 14 to be a gift shop or plant
shop assistant, public program assistant or gardener. Training is on-the-
job.

Planting Fields State Historic Park (Oyster Bay)
Volunteers commit 4 hours per week as gardeners, guides, receptionists
and staff for gift shop and horticultural library. Weekend docents and gift
shop staff needed especially.

The South Shore Estuary Reserve (Freeport)
The South Shore Estuary Reserve Office and partner organizations are
seeking volunteers to watch for alewives during their upcoming spawning
season, April 1 to May 31. Documenting these spawning runs is an
important step in understanding diadromous fish habitat use, and for
guiding future projects to restore diadromous fish populations on Long
Island.
Volunteer training workshops will be held on Wednesday, March 28 from
7:00pm to 8:30pm, and Saturday March 31 from 10:00am to 11:30am at
Dowling College in Oakdale. Interested volunteers should contact the
SSER Office to learn more.

Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center (Oyster Bay)
Those who love to work in the outdoors can assist in the maintenance of
these beautiful grounds by tending to nature trails, doing light carpentry
work on aviaries, office support and animal care
