Teens Take Charge
American Red Cross in Nassau County (Mineola)
1. Volunteer in an office environment to learn all aspects of data entry,
filing, setting up classes, inventory maintenance, logistic and retail sales.
Volunteers are needed within the following departments – Accounting,
Emergency Services, Health and Safety, Public Relations, Volunteer
Resources – after school up until 4:30 p.m.
2. Work with school leadership in establishing a Red Cross Club at your
High School. Existing clubs throughout Nassau County High Schools meet
on a regular basis and decide upon community based services projects and
fund raising events. Once a month, club advisors and leadership members
meet at the Chapter to discuss club activities.
3. Become a member of the Disaster Action Team. When disaster strikes
within our community, day or night, the Red Cross responds. Trained
volunteers of the Disaster Action Team rotate times being on-call to
respond to emergency needs of our neighbors for food, clothing, and
shelter. Individuals up to and including age 16 would need to join with a
parent / guardian.

Catholic Charities (Rockville Centre)
Volunteers involved in extensive programs (senior centers, immigration
services, visually impaired, chemical dependency, meals on wheels,
administrative assistance)

Centro Cultural Hispano (Oyster Bay)
Tutor Hispanic adults in English on a one-to-one basis (in a public space in
Oyster Bay). Arrange you schedule with your student.

F.E.G.S. (Syosset)
Donations assistance: Teens needed to help sort,organize and shelve
donations in the Pantry at our administrative offices in Syosset. We are
open during business hours; teens are welcome to come in and help any
time between 9-5, Monday to Friday. There is no age minimum and no
training needed.
Helping Hands Baskets: Families in our Adopt-A-Family program are
experiencing financial difficulties and often find it hard to feed their
children. Teens can help by collecting non-perishable food and household
items and then creating baskets for families in need. There is no age
minimum or training necessary. The hours are flexible.

Momma's House (Wantagh)
Variety of volunteer opportunities available including child care,
office/clerical assistance, sorting donations, painting, clean up, moving
assistance, running a collection drive on your school campus, etc.
Days/Times flexible depending on type of project and volunteer's
schedule.

Teens are welcome to volunteer at rock CAN roll events held at the North
Fork Theatre at Westbury.
Hours are generally 6:30p - 8:30p

Youth Taking Action
YOUTH VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
- Web programmers - Volunteers that are fairly good with their computer
skills in HTML and PHP programming are needed on the Webmaster team.
Some tasks may include updating text, creating new pages, etc.
- Publicity - Volunteers who enjoy writing and talking to people. Tasks may
include writing press release articles, contacting schools, celebrities, and
other organization.
- Administrative Team - YTA is looking for extremely dedicated and
motivated teenagers. We need volunteers to work on our administrative
team and help run YTA. Tasks could vary greatly from filling out grant
applications to contacting members, etc.
